With four dining rooms to choose from, Gilpin Lodge Country House Hotel offers guests a wonderful choice of classic English dishes with a modern twist. Most of the food is sourced locally and every table has white linen cloths, fresh flowers and candles. The wine list boasts over 200 wines from 13 countries, offering great choice and value for money. Guests are invited to look around the wine cellar. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is available to residents and non-residents all year round.

Much emphasis is put on serving the finest fresh seasonal produce, much of it from Cumbria, and each dining room has its own character and style.Breakfast menus include locally sourced food, including free range eggs, Cumbrian sausages and a wide choice of interesting dishes, including Canadian-style pancakes, Cumbrian Rarebit with Lancashire cheese, local dry-cured bacon and pear chutney. Grilled Manx kippers are also a favourite, plus eggs benedict with local  ham or smoked salmon and Cumbrian gammon with sourdough toast and eggs.

The innovative lunch menu offers such favourites as: Pressed terrine of plum tomatoes, goat´s cheese and gazpacho dressing, Cornish crab with mustard mayonnaise and soft quail´s eggs, pan-fried sea bass with scallop, basil potato purée and virgin olive oil dressing, roast loin of slow-cooked belly of Lyth Valley rare breed pork with bramley apple purée. Classic sandwiches and lighter bites are also offered.

Dinner options include dishes such as: twice baked Tovey goat´s cheese soufflé with waldorf salad and a red wine reduction, artichoke salad with madeira jelly, truffle dressing and crispy Parmesan risotto, ballotine of organic salmon with horseradish and potato mousse and beetroot salad, roasted best end and braised shoulder of Cumbrian lamb with bramley apples and cider sauce and roasted loin of Grizedale venison wrapped in smoked bacon, spiced red cabbage, pickled damsons.

L´Enclume at Cartmel Grange-over-Sands

If you enjoy experimenting with different flavour combinations, L´Enclume could be the perfect restaurant for you. Simon Rogan combines modern cuisine with local produce, which results in a wide choice of tempting dishes.L´Enclume is situated in the heart of Cartmel on the southern edge of the Lake District, and it  offers diners superb food in a stunning setting. Three menus are priced at £55, £75 and £95, and offer an eclectic range of dishes, with plenty of locally-sourced produce.
 
Simon Rogan opened L´Enclume in 2002, and it has evolved into one of the most celebrated restaurants of its kind in the UK. The restaurant has a Michelin Star and 4 AA rosettes. The restaurant has become famous for its inventive, modernist cuisine. Simon Rogan champions local produce, and has become known for his inventive use of flowers,  herbs and plants in his cooking. Offering fresh, light flavours, Simon has eliminated the heavy meat stocks and sauces associated with so many restaurants, and cleverly combined flowers and fresh herbs for a range of subtle flavours.

Rogan and Company is the sister restaurant of L´Enclume, and this is much more ´casual dining´ than ´fine dining.´ Although the menus are subject to change, typical dishes include: Velute of shellfish with tarragon and shrimp tortellini, Sausage of confit guineau fowl with white bean stew and watercress, Salt cod mousse, confit tomato salad, black olive and parmesan, Herb crusted halibut with anchovy fritter, asparagus and herb risotto, braised local lamb shoulder with red cabbage and sweet potato purée and Prime rib steak with bernaise sauce and thick cut chips. Desserts include: black cherry and lemon trifle with mint sorbet and roast spiced pineapple tart with gingerbread ice cream.

Holbeck Ghyll Windermere

Holbeck Ghyll offers stunning views over Windermere and the local countryside, and the Michelin-starred restaurant offers excellent local cuisine in the Oak Panelled and Terrace Restaurant rooms. Offering great value for money and a wide combination of flavours, the restaurant at Holbeck Ghyll has retained its Michelin star for the past ten years.

David McLaughlin has been Head Chef at Holbeck Ghyll for the past ten years, and he offers guests a culinary journey with an eclectic range of dishes and clever use of local ingredients. Menus are subject to change, but the sample menu includes such delights as: Salt cod pannacotta with pickled vegetables and salmon beignets, Roasted scallops with spiced cauliflower, apple and raisin purée, A pressing of ham hock with a salad of pickled beetroot and celery, Braised boneless oxtail with caramelised root vegetables and Best end of lamb with swede purée and haggis beignets.

Sharrow Bay Ullswater

Sharrow Bay offers magnificent Lake District views over Lake Ullswater to Helvellyn and Striding Edge, and the menu is made up of locally-sourced cuisine and a clever combination of ingredients, textures and tastes.Since 1948 the world-famous Sharrow Bay hotel and its Michelin star restaurant has had a breathtaking setting on the shore of the beautiful Lake Ullswater in the Lake District. The cellar is also maintained to very high standards, and rare vintages can be found here. There are over 700 wines on the wine list.

Sharrow Bay nestles in twelve acres of private woodland and is surrounded by the magnificent scenic Lake District fells. This country house hotel offers guests comfort, luxury and fine dining in a beautiful setting.Having invented sticky toffee pudding in the 1970s, Sharrow Bay has evolved into one of the UK´s best restaurants, and individual dishes are presented with flair and creativity. The five course lunch menu, priced at £43.00 per person includes such delicacies as: Pressed ham hock, foie gras and girolles with Sauternes jelly, Fillet of turbot with shallot, bacon and thyme risotto and red wine sauce, Sautéed scallops with cauliflower purée, hazlenut and sultana dressing, Fillet of plaice with braised leeks and truffles, Fillet of local venison with braised red cabbage, apple and raisins, butternut squash purée and dauphinoise potatoes, and the famous sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

The six course dinner menu is priced at £70.00 per person, and includes: Soufflé of spinach, stilton and roasted onions, Smoked duck breast salad with honey roasted figs and cashel blue cheese, Saddle of rabbit, potato pancake, spinach, wild mushroom and light grain mustard sauce, Tournedos of Aberdeen Angus fillet steak with steak and kidney pudding, roasted shallots and marinated cherry tomatoes. Desserts include orange and lemon soufflé, Caramelised lime tart with coconut sorbet and Iced honey and ginger meringue roulade with rhubarb compote.
