Santa cruises Ullswater

11-12 December

A magical Christmas experience on board a steamer cruising the lake with Sammy the Squirrel, Santa and his Elf.


Dickensian Christmas festival

27-28 November

Ulverston town centre

The whole town is taken over with character and charm as the Dickensian festival unfolds, a perfect way to shop for Christmas in the spirit of Christmas past, with many people in costume, entertainment and stalls throughout the marketplace and competitions and lots of local interest.


Kendal mountain festival

18-21 November

An amazing programme of photography, details, books, films and all things associated for mountaineers or armchair enthusiasts, with special entertainment, humour and drama, an unmissable event from Kendals yearly calendar.


Winter Market

6-7 November

Set in the grounds of Holker Hall this is a superb market filled with all kinds of locally produced food and gift ideas for the festive season held every year with quality produce, crafts and gifts inside the courtyard marketplace.


Carlisle fireshow


7-8 November

One of the top ten fireworks displays in the country, with a themed bonfire and fireworks display to music, a must for all those who like to set the night of with a bang.


Haloween week

Ravenglass 24-31st October

Based at Muncaster Castle a very haunted spot for a bit of haloween fun for the whole week including nightly magic show and events during the week with crafts and games to amuse all ages.


Coniston Power Boat Records Week

Monday 1st - Friday 5th November

A stunning landscape where power speed boat record attempts have been tried and made for many years, set on Ullswater, Windermere and most famously Coniston water, where the world famous Bluebird museum is in memory of Donald Campbell. An extraordinary event to spectate in the only event worldwide to bring together all different types of boats.

25th September - 3rd October

Many events feature over these days, formerly known as the Ullswater Walking Festival, events include woodland trails, outdoor activities varying from a lake swim to mountain biking and kayaking, there is something for everyone at this festival or relax with a ride on the steamers, or be dramatic with a waterfall walk!


Egremont Crab Fair & Sports

Saturday 18th September

An amusing spectacle to see, the world championship Gurning competition, or face pulling to you or I, is a part of the tradition here for many generations dating from 1267, one of the oldest fairs in the world. A great day out with many events throughout the course of the day from early in the morning to late in the evening.


Horse Trials, Hutton in the Forrest

11th - 12th September

Hosted by Lord and Lady Inglewood in the grounds of Hutton in the Forrest estate, there are many trade stands from local businesses along with excellent horse trials running through cross country, over combination fences and the flats of the estate. A true country event which attracts many competitors and visitors each year.


Kendal Torchlight Carnival

Friday, 10th September, 2010

This classic yearly event takes place throughout the streets of Kendal, where everyone joins in, and marvels at the incredible parade of torches that pass through the town centre. Mazes and street entertainers feature throughout the parade, and people of all ages wear fancy dress to raise money for local charities.


The Great North Swim, Windermere


Saturday 4th - Sunday 5th September

An event which gathers people together old or young to take part in the one mile swim in lake Windermere with stunning views, having over 6000 people take part in 2009, you must pre-register to take part or come and be one of the thousands of supporters to spectate and congratulate the swimmers.


Mintfest at Kendal

Thursday, 2nd-Sunday, 5th September, 2010

Kendal´s annual Mintfest is a wonderful celebration of the town´s famous heritage, where street performers, artists and drama companies come together in the centre of town with some superb events to keep the whole family entertained. Even if you are not interested in art, you will be transfixed by the amazing lights and incredible characters and attractions displayed throughout the town.


Gladiators & Warriors


29th - 30th August

This is set near Brampton at Birdoswald roman fort, a weekend event to learn the secrets of the gladiators and see what it involved, children join in with the military drill practice and join the roman army.


Grasmere Lakeland Sports Show

Sunday, 29th August, 2010

This popular show provides a wonderful exhibition of true Cumbrian showmanship, comprising of many events including: a military band, puppy trails, horses in harmony, sheepdog displays, fell races and a Langdale and Ambleside mountain rescue demonstration (with RAF Sea King helicopters). Offering plenty of things to see and do for all the family, the Grasmere Lakeland Sports Show is an excellent day out.


Medieval Weekend, Muncaster Castle


28th - 30th August

Turn back in time and enter the castle in the medieval era. There will be armoury of the time with battle re-enactments and even cooking in the style of medieval times.


Solfest Music Festival,Silloth


27th - 29th August bank holiday weekend

An excellent festival for music lovers with many acts featuring over the weekend which attracts thousands of people each year, this years' line up includes The Damned, Utah Saints, Adam Freeland, Alabama 3, Thea Gilmore and many more.


Cumbria Classic Car Show

Sunday 22nd August

A classic car show comprising of cars, bikes and military transport from years gone by organised by the Wigton motor club and set in the grounds of Dalemain House near Ullswater.


Kenny Ball and his Jazz men, Penrith Leisure Centre

Sunday 15th August

An excellent evening of music from this highly successful trumpet player with his band he has been playing with for the past 50 years. His classic jazz style of playing is popular with all ages, often reviewed as a timeless performer where the music speaks for itself.


Lakeland Country Fair, near Coniston Torver, admission £5 per person

Sunday, 15th August

The Lakeland Country Fair provides a brilliant day out for all the family. This traditional country fair gives visitors an insight into the life of Lakeland residents, which has changed little over the centuries. Offering plenty of attractions, pastimes and rural activities, including sheep shearing, hound shows, a horn blowing competition, and many trade stands from local businesses, this annual show is one of the region´s top attractions. Also enjoy displays of traditional Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, which is an age-old Lakeland sport.


Appleby Agricultural Show


Sat 14th August

Set in a rural country village setting, there is a great variety of livestock animals, arts and crafts stalls, local business stands, and events throughout the day.


Lake District Summer of Music Festival

30th July - 15th August

In the 26th year of the festival, many musicians, poets, composers and painters visit the lake district and take inspiration from the surroundings, enhancing their creativity, this years festival being a celebration of Schumann and Chopin who were born in 1810.
