Cartmel Show
On: August 3rd
At: Cartmel Racecourse
About: Cartmel Show is always a firm favourite with both visitors and locals. The Show, held on the first Wednesday in August, provides a great day out for all the family, and is packed into the picturesque parkland setting at Cartmel Racecourse. A traditional Country Show with its roots firmly within the agricultural community, Carmel Show provides the opportunity to sample the delights of rural life at its best.

The Lakeland Country Fair
On: August 21st
At: A couple of miles west of Coniston Village
About: This popular event takes place in beautiful countryside with views of the Coniston fells and Coniston Old Man. Including fine displays of traditional Cumbrian culture, plus Herdwick and Swaledale sheep, a Terrier Show, a family dog show, children's sports, stick show, Foxhound show, Beagle show, horn blowing competition, Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling. Adult and junior fell racing, ferret show, displays of fell ponies, fell foxhounds, falconry, and, weather permitting, a paragliding display. As well as trade stands there is a children's bouncy castle, swing boats, roundabout, donkey rides and climbing wall. The Wood Vibrations Festival
On: August 27th and 28th
At: Fell Foot Wood, Windermere

Cartmel Races

Taste Cumbria Food Festival
On: September 24th and 25th
At: Venues throughout Cockermouth and West Cumbria
About: After the huge success of 2010, Taste Cumbria Food Festival returns to the pretty Georgian town of Cockermouth. Attracting foodies from all over the UK, events will be located in venues throughout the town, including a Celebrity Cookery Theatre, Masterclasses and demonstrations from some of Cumbria's hottest culinary talents. The Kendal Mintfest

Westmorland County Show
On: September 8th
At: County Showfield, Crooklands, near Kendal
About: featuring Cattle, Sheep, pigs, Goats, also Horses, Poultry, Hounds, Dogs and Rare Breeds, together with Alpaca classes. Not forgetting Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, W.I., Learning for Life and Craft Marquees, with over 350 trade stands and the areas largest local products Food Hall with special demonstrators and Celebrity Chefs. World Sheep Dog Trials and Food and Country Festival
On: Between September 15th-18th
At: The Lowther Estate near Penrith
About: Lowther Park is the largest outdoor events venue in the Lake District and in 2009 it played host to the International Sheep Dog Trials. The World Trial will feature 240 dogs and handlers from 23 nations. On of eve of the World Trials on Wednesday, September 14, there will be a parade through the streets of Penrith. It will be headed by the Penrith Town Band, which will be followed by a horse-drawn carriage driven by 19-times world carriage-driving champion George Bowman and carrying the Earl and Countess of Lonsdale. They will be followed by all the competing dogs and their handlers, who will be carrying their national flags. Many will also be dressed in national costume. Afterwards, they will all return to the trials site at Thrimby for a hog roast and live entertainment. Starting at 8am on September 15 will be four days of sheep dog trials featuring the world's top dogs and their handlers, with the grand final taking place on Sunday, September 18. Whatever time of year you decide to visit The Lake District you will find plenty of things to see and do. If you base yourself in picturesque Windermere, you can travel around the region easily, either by car, boat or bus.
